Let’s take an example of a tree to understand life better. A tree has 3 essential parts –

  • Roots
  • Trunk
  • Crown
Mental health first aid training & Tips

Roots are not seen but the tree stands on them. The stronger and deeper the roots are, the tree would even stand strong. Even a Storm, gale, or hurricane cannot damage the tree if the roots are deeper.

Comparably, if we have strong roots we cannot get harmed by anyone. Our success and luxury are seen by people. They can see how well we live, what gadgets we use, which car we drive, and which brand we wear; but there are many unseen things in everyone’s life which.

Similarly, the roots are hidden and cannot be seen by the naked eye. Our worries, thoughts, feelings, sadness, anxiety, what our hearts feel inside, can’t be seen by anyone.

Let me share a story to illustrate more about Mental Health First Aid

A guy named Rajveer purchased a new bungalow in a posh area of the town. He invited his best friend Arjun to come for lunch. Arjun accepted the invite and visited him the next day.

Rajveer traveled him around his bungalow showing him the luxurious house which included a pool inside, king-sized rooms, a big hall, a small gym, and some other amenities.

For lunch, the chef prepared a spread appetizing buffet with some starters along with soup, salad, 3-4 main course dishes, and yummy desserts to top it off. The food was well prepared and increased Arjun’s appetite. They conversed over lunch.

Now Arjun asked for permission to take a leave. Suddenly, Arjun was shocked to the core seeing his friend Rajveer crying.

Arjun asked him to sit and have a sip of water. He consoled Rajveer and asked, “what happened my friend?” These weren’t the tears of joy or happiness, these were the tears of agony and pain.

Well, it is said that tears of joy are cold but the tears of pain are warm.

Arjun kept on enquiring and with a heavy heart, Rajveer told him that his wife had filed papers for divorce. He loved her and the children. Rajveer said he tried his best to work out things but all went in vain. This, unfortunately, was the worst unseen part of his life that no one could ever know.

People from outside could only see his big lavish bungalow with the servants inside, his money, and other luxuries. no one knew what he was going through from the inside.

The crown and the trunk are visible to everyone but the roots are hidden deep inside. To make the tree strong, the roots need to strengthen.

To make the trunk and the crown grow well with fresh leaves, flowers and fruits you need to make the roots be strong and grow well.
If the roots are shaking, the trunk will be wobbly. As a result, a storm, hurricane, a cyclone can affect and shake it and may uproot it sometimes.

How do you determine your true wealth? What will you do to see it?

Count on the relationships, they cannot be brought from money. You may be blessed by your parents, relationships, and loved ones, and see when you cry how many hands come forward to wipe up your tears.

That can actually tell how Rich you are, and accordingly, you can judge your mental health!

Hence, strengthen your roots. Roots get strengthened by connecting with all the powers that make you positive from the inside. Connection with yourself is very important which can be gained through Meditation, Yoga, and Prayers.

Connecting with people is imperative too. You are truly blessed if you have people to pour your heart out to.

Reading out the recent unpleasant incident of the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput gave us a few life lessons.

Remembering him, all I can say is;

Don’t let others take control of you”. It’s YOUR LIFE others won’t decide how you should react, feel, or do any piece of shit you wish to do.

We can’t control what others say, but we can control ourselves and how we react to it. In nutshell, their behavior is their choice and our reaction is our choice.

You Must Know: Why Is Mental Health Considered A Taboo Around The Globe?

Late Sushant Singh Rajput once shared a tweet:

Sushant Singh Rajput Tweets on behavioral health definition.

It’s really okay if you are depressed: our dearest Sushant Singh Rajput used to say this. It’s okay if you are a Man and you cried out loud!

We Indians generally say that “Real Men don’t cry”. How far do you think it is true? Why do we need to say this?

Is there a difference between a man’s heart and a woman’s heart?

We talk about gender equality, so let’s not become a gender stereotype and let men also pour their hearts out, they have emotions too.

To all the men reading out there, it is OK to CRY, you have the equal right to it and take out your emotions just like any other human being. By crying you are not any less of a real man.

If someone criticizes you, demoralizes you, deject you, or pulls you down; that’s their opinion and choice. All you have to do is, IGNORE THEM!

There are certain practices that one can follow to manage your temper when fuming | Mental Health First Aid

  1. Breathe in and out deeply because when we are in anger our breathing goes higher.
  2. Ponder before you react to any situation that triggers you.
  3. Chant some mantra or anything that relaxes your mind and emotions.
  4. Never react in heat of the moment as that is only vulnerable to criticism. No good words would come out of your mouth when you are angry or frustrated.
  5. Go for a walk or workout relax your muscles, do some stretching and blow out to calm your mind.
  6. Play with your mind and indulge yourself in something that really keeps you busy for some time to distract yourself from the situation.
  7. Play other games but not a blame game. Express your feelings instead of blaming the other person. It has a deep meaning.
  8. Consult a clinical psychologist if you are unable to control your emotions.
  9. Pour your heart out instead of keeping grudges. To have a smooth journey in life, keep yourself away from pitfalls and let all the pits pass by. A pot full of grudges will overflow one day and burst out in a different situation. So, avoid filling it.
  10. Don’t be a pessimist when you are angry or depressed. Negative thoughts can rule your mind anytime. Thoughts that you might regret later on.
  11. Talk to someone who understands you and can guide you in situations. There is no harm in discussing your things with someone you rely on.

Try these ways out and you will be able to stable your mind from giving instant harmful reactions, which is a sign of nice Mental Health.
