I can’t count the things I am grateful for because I feel my life is a blessing and I like expressing gratitude for everything in life. In this blog, we talk about the major benefits of practicing gratitude.
I understood the concept of gratitude after reading the book ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne. Since I started practicing gratitude, I have genuinely felt that I became more humble as a person.
For most of my life, as a child, in my teenage years, and even part of my adulthood, I never felt that I am grateful for anything. In fact, I was extremely negative and didn’t believe in the power or the words of gratitude. I only understand the attitude of gratitude after I read ‘The Secret’ in 2009.
For a person like me, who always believed that “she can never get anything good in her life,” the changes I saw after practicing gratitude were nothing short of a miracle? I found more things that I am grateful for and started practicing gratitude regularly.
There are so many things to be grateful for the sun, air, water, the house we live in, functioning body and the list is endless. People should tell their partners regularly that “I am grateful for you“. Imagine how happy your partner would feel.
Why is Gratitude Important?
Gratitude doesn’t mean that you will never encounter challenges, it just means that you start appreciating life and the small pleasures it offers.
I have understood the attitude of gratitude after many struggles and have made them a part of my daily life. As part of my morning ritual, I write 10 things i am grateful for. However, it is equally easy to be ungrateful.
Thanks to the internet era, it is more prevalent than ever. We can say that it has become more like a skin, which cannot be removed or torn apart.
Due to the influence of social media, most people, especially millennials, get trapped in the web of jealousy, comparison, and ego. With each passing day, most youngsters are becoming more ungrateful for everything they have.

Over the years, I noticed that the practice of expressing gratitude has transformed me as a person. I am grateful for even the smallest things and practice words of gratitude regularly.
Apart from that, my emotional empathy has increased, and on top of that, I know that even if I were going through the biggest turmoil or the most difficult times in my life, I would overcome that victoriously.
Every morning when I wake up, the first thing I do is- thank god because I am alive and I have one more day to live. Then, my day goes on, where, I am thankful for everything, even the minute things like the toothbrush, toothpaste, electricity, etc.
Gratitude truly changes our perspective towards life, we start appreciating the things that we have more than what we don’t.

You cannot be fearful and grateful at the same time. As an appreciative person, you get the strength to cope up even with the most tragic situation like the demise of near and dear ones placidly than many others.

Being grateful puts you in a state of abundance. You start valuing minute things and start living more in the present than the future.
3. Your quality of life improves
A simple act of gratefulness can bring joy into your lives. It aids you to keep stress at bay and be calm. Hence, elevating your mood, and eventually helping you to become better, healthier and a happier version of yourself.
Many people might feel that it’s easier for rich people to be grateful as they have a surplus of everything and can do most things at their will. However, that is far from the truth, money is important, but it doesn’t guarantee happiness, and finding happiness is extremely important for life.
