“Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” – Ibn Battuta
This beautiful quote stands so true. I realized this recently when I went as a “first-time traveller” to Rajasthan. I learnt many travel tips and hacks during this trip which I would like to share with you all.
Sure, I have been “travelling” and have gone on numerous vacations since childhood but that was mainly restricted to meeting the relatives.
This was the first time; I listened to my intuition and decided to travel with a group of friends to Rajasthan mainly Pushkar, Ajmer, and Jaipur.
I won’t deny, that it was a little overwhelming in the beginning, but along the journey, I started enjoying every moment of it and since then, I am looking forward to my next trip.
Here, are a few travel tips for the first time travellers that I discovered. These smart travel tips would help you to avoid a few small mistakes and become an improved traveller.
Travel Safety Tips
“Travel safety tips” are extremely crucial to remember. As females, we encounter frequent stares and filthy comments. Always check the travel distance as well as carry a map if possible.
This way, you will look more local who knows their way and be able to avoid the dark lonely streets as well.
Hence, we should always be extra cautious. Carrying a pepper spray or chilli powder at all times is immensely vital and would make your travel a smooth sail.

Always move in Groups
One more lesson that I learned in Amer Fort, Jaipur was to move in groups all the time.
If that is not possible, then decide amongst yourselves, a specific place, where everyone will meet at a specific time. This way, you won’t get lost in an unknown place.
Likewise, do not panic if you have strayed from your group and if there is no mobile network.
Look for the signs or don’t hesitate to ask people for help (Security people or cops in the location will be more than willing to help you).
Always research as well as prepare a travel itinerary before. That would aid you to save tons of time along with the money.
Check various travel websites to compose a list of various places you wanna see, local cuisines to try & don’t forget – the shopping!
Make sure to analyse the travel distance, as most of us have limited days to spare, this practice would help to estimate the travel time between different places thus saving both time and money.

- Firstly, make a list of all the most items like medicines, toiletries along with other essentials.
- Secondly, keep your cash stashed away in different places of your bag. This way, in case of theft, you won’t lose all the money.
- The third point is that while travelling by flight, keep your cash, jewellery and other important documents in hand luggage (the one you will carry in hand), not in the Check-in baggage.
- Fourthly, if the destination where you are travelling has an ATM, then do not carry a lot of cash with you.
- Fifth important point- invariably, carry snacks as well as water.
- Lastly, do not forget the essentials: chargers, mosquito repellent, glare, lotion, etc.
My last point on which I would like to emphasize is to check the weather before travel.
One incident I remember is when, in spite of checking the weather, I ended up getting soaked by sudden heavy rain.
From that time onwards, I always carry a small umbrella and also a pair of extra shorts, just in case, I feel like drenching in the rain, after all, I am on a holiday!
Travelling helps us to learn as well as discover so much about ourselves. We grow as an individual.
Being a first time traveller, we tend to make mistakes, as it is a part of growing up, but you will soon realize that it’s such an enriching experience.
So, take the above points and travel tips into consideration. Enjoy your travel experience and do not forget to share your unique experiences with friends and family. Trust me, by the end of the trip, you would have so many stories to share!
